Privacy Policy

This page explains what information this website collects, why, and what you can do about it. The site is run by me, Stewart Marsden, a photographer and writer based in Watford, Hertfordshire. If you have a question about your information, send me a message through the contact page.

When you send me a message

The contact forms ask for your name, your email address and your message. I use them to reply to you and, if you book me, to arrange the job. I don't add you to a mailing list, and I don't sell or pass your details to anyone else.

Messages are sent through Squarespace, which hosts this website, and arrive in my email.

I reply to every message. If it isn't about work, for example someone asking how to get access to a location to photograph the fireworks, I delete it once I've replied. If an enquiry doesn't lead anywhere, I delete that too. I only keep emails from people I do business with, for the job and my business records.

My lawful basis is that you've asked me to reply, and, if you book me, that I need your details to do the job.

Cookies

Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser. Squarespace uses some to make the site work. Google Analytics and Google's ads use others. When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept non-essential cookies, and where the law requires it, you're asked for consent before they're used.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics tells me which pages people read, roughly where they are in the world, what device they use and how they found the site. It doesn't tell me who you are. Analytics cookies are only set if you accept them.

Adverts

The blog shows adverts from Google AdSense. Google and other companies use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this site and other sites. You can turn off personalised ads in Google's My Ad Center. Google explains how it uses information from sites like this one on its page How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Where your information is stored

Squarespace and Google may store information on servers outside the UK, under the safeguards they use for international transfers.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the information I hold about you, and ask me to correct or delete it. You can also object to how I use it, or withdraw your consent to cookies at any time. To do any of these, use the contact page. If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
